The Chakras

Chakras are energy centers contained within you as part of your energy system.

You have seven main chakras lined up along your spine, from the tailbone up to the top of your head. Each of these chakras contains information about your abilities. Each is tied in with various organs and parts of the body as well. You also have chakras in the soles of your feet and the palms of your hands.

When your chakras are healthy and you are able to access the information contained within them, they are in movement, spinning. It is when they are in movement that you can use them. Your chakras open and close, and it’s important to note that you don’t need them wide open in order to access them. Walking around with your chakras open up all the way can feel very uncomfortable and get in your way by making you too wide open to all of the information coming at you. This can result in feeling blocked again as some of that energy sticks to you.

Chakras are important because they are doorways to you, and to your information. When you find yourself stuck or unable to access important abilities, the chakra associated with whatever you’re trying to have for yourself is very likely affected in some way – stuck or blocked, or perhaps someone else’s energy has gotten caught in your ability to have what it is you want.

When you move the energy out of your way that isn’t you is when you’re able to access the information you need to be safe, feel your emotions, have enough energy, love, communicate, see clearly, and know for yourself. By working with your chakras and energy system, you’re able to learn more about yourself and to grow and heal.

Here’s a basic description of each chakra’s location and abilities:

  • 1st Chakra, at the tailbone/base of your spine – Your ability to be safe, stable, and grounded. Your right to be here.
  • 2nd Chakra, below the navel – Clairsentience, the ability to feel energy clearly. Your emotional center.
  • 3rd Chakra, in the solar plexus – Your energy center, and ability to act. Astral/dreams.
  • 4th Chakra, center of chest – Affinity, Love, Self Image. The bridge between body and spirit.
  • 5th Chakra, throat – Communication, Clairaudience, Expression, Inner Voice, Telepathy.
  • 6th Chakra, pineal gland, center of head – Clairvoyance, Vision, Clear Seeing, Non-judgment.
  • 7th Chakra, top of the head – Crown Chakra, Knowingness, Spirit, Mediumship, Your Own Truth.

Upcoming posts on this site will go into more detail on how you can begin to heal and have greater access to your chakras.

If you live in Southern California, you can join my Chakra Workshops, taking place now through December 2011. Click here to learn more about these classes.

What can a daily meditation habit do for you?

If you are looking for one good habit to add to your life, try meditating regularly. You’ll benefit in more ways than you might imagine you can from such a simple practice.

A grounded meditation practice will help you to know who you are and where you’re at. If you’ve been running and running, and expect to continue doing so every day, meanwhile fueling yourself on caffeine, stress, guilt, worry, or some other toxic energy, your body and health will suffer. You will lose your precious energy by treating yourself this way. It can be much harder for you to create what it is you want if you don’t have enough energy or space to do so.

You can try something different today. Or tomorrow, or anytime. There is never a bad time to begin to meditate, and every time you do it helps you to do it again. If you practice grounding as part of your meditation, you have a way to release all of those toxic energies you’ve been taking on.

If you think you’re already too busy and don’t have the time to begin doing this, if you just can’t see adding one more thing to your list, consider this. The time you spend meditating will pay off in big ways, and in parts of your life you may not even imagine it doing so.

Meditation can help you to do the following: gain perspective, calm down, sleep better, let go, hear yourself, value your body, have more energy, heal yourself, think more clearly, create your new creations, manifest, let go of pain, enjoy being in the moment, be able to be present, hear music clearly, have more fun.

It also helps you to: come back to your senses, know yourself, give yourself permission to stop constantly doing, trust yourself, feel your feelings, know your own thoughts, ground yourself, communicate with the earth, become aware of your body, find peace within, relax, know what’s truly important to you. You may not be aware of the vast riches to be found within yourself, until you begin looking for them.

Meditation is not perfect, doesn’t need to be practiced perfectly, and you don’t need to be perfect to practice it. All you need to do is begin. Do it on your own, find a teacher, listen to a cd, create your own practice. There is no one right way to meditate. The trick is just to start.

How do you know your own energy?

Let’s get personal for a moment. When it comes right down to it, there are only two kinds of energy in existence: your energy, and not-your-energy.

This is one of the first things I tell students in my meditation classes. It’s a simple idea, sure, but how easy is it to tell which energy is yours, and which isn’t?

We live on a vibrant planet teeming with energy. The entire planet itself is energy, and so is every creature on it. It’s such an interesting place to live, with a rich variety of species. Most of us will never see most of the other life forms on this planet face to face in our lifetimes. There’s just so much here.

Every being on this planet has a unique vibration, a spirit. Many of them don’t look that way, because they are matched to each other. This includes people, who often match to and run each other’s energy. This isn’t a problem, unless you are trying to create your life to be uniquely your own.

If you want to stand out from the crowd, find your answers, write that masterpiece, get up on stage and wow the crowd, heal yourself, live your life on your own terms, turn on your unique abilities, know who you truly are… you’ve got to find out what your energy is, and also what it isn’t.

There is nothing wrong with your energy

Your own energy, when it’s validated, is the most healing energy for you. It’s the best energy to run through you, body and spirit. When you have your own energy working for you, it’s much easier to create what it is you want to have for yourself. You are more likely to be and feel well, and to let go of those things that don’t serve you. You can heal yourself, with your own energy working for you.

Many people think there’s something wrong with their energy. I’ve been asked that quite a number of times in readings and classes, usually along the lines of “What’s wrong with my energy?” or: “Do I have bad energy?”

If you’ve been running stress, anxiety, pain, negativity, anger, or some other uncomfortable energy through you, it will be much more difficult to know what is your energy. In fact, you may not have much of it with you – you might have left it all over the place, given some away, left it in past situations or thrown it out ahead of you into the future. Doing all of this can make it seem to you as if your own energy is flawed.

Present time is the place to be

The more of your energy you can have with you now, the safer you will be on all levels of yourself, body and spirit. When you bring yourself back home again to the present moment, life is happier and more fun. The more scattered you are, energetically speaking, the more difficult it will be to know who you are, and what your energy truly is.

Meditation is a valuable way to collect yourself back again and be present. A grounded meditation can help you to feel more real, and give you permission to safely release what you’ve taken on that just isn’t yours. Just as leaving your energy all over the place does you no good where you need it, which is now, so does taking on all kinds of energies that simply don’t work inside of you well, because they aren’t yours.

Energy itself is a language you can learn to speak. Once you begin, it’s a fascinating study, as are you. You the spirit are far more interesting and wealthier with knowledge than you might have given yourself credit for being. Taking the time to learn who you truly are and what your energy really is all about, is the most important task you can take on for yourself.

Making it easier for you – to be you

You can simplify your life, and make it less complicated to be you. When you take care of your own energy system, the rest of life goes more smoothly.

This isn’t to say that everything will always be easy, all of the time, if you do this. But if you know the difference between what is your energy and what isn’t, life gets a whole lot simpler.

Think about the energy and time you’ve spent trying to solve problems you could never solve. Not only can this kind of thing waste your energy, it’s also expensive, invalidating, and can wear you down. Whether you can solve a problem or not has nothing to do with how good you are at problem solving, or how resourceful or smart. It has everything to do with whether it’s even your problem to begin with.

Here’s a simple way to decide whether you can solve a problem or not: ask yourself if you even created it to begin with. If you didn’t, you can’t solve it, no matter how good you are.

If you keep trying and trying to solve problems for others and the world at large, you might be spending buckets of energy in doing so. The more energy you send out there, into things having nothing to do with you or your own life, the less you’ll have available to create solutions for the things you can do something about.

There are things you do have power over, and things you don’t. It’s a good idea to learn the difference, so that you know where to spend your valuable energy in order to get the best return. If you keep giving it away, there’ll be none left for you when you want it.

The areas of your life affected by spending your energy carelessly include: your physical, emotional, and financial health, relationships, career, vocation, creativity, enthusiasm and joy. So, pretty much all of it.

Many people would never waste their money foolishly, yet they don’t see their own energy as being even more valuable than any amount of money. Your energy is priceless, and if you treat it as such, you’ll have plenty to work with. If you’re spending your energy each day trying to hold together those things that really do need to fall apart, you’re wasting your time, and energy.

Some things need to fall apart. We are in a time of Letting Go. That’s one skill many people are practicing now, and it’s a very good one to add to your repertoire. If you hold onto everything tightly as it’s trying to slip away, you’re also holding back the new creations. You’re in resistance, fear, and maybe a bit of unconsciousness. Everything changes, and what is being created now is a whole new world. Rather than resist it or fear it, begin by creating a new world within yourself. Start by becoming aware of your own unique energy. You are truly one of a kind!
